For the longest time, Alex has been asking us to go to the local Sports Athority shop to climb their climbing wall. Yesterday, he was so innocent in his asking that we just couldn't turn him down. So, after we got the kids to do some cleaning (sometimes, incentives just present themselves!) we headed out and found ourselves looking 42 feet up to the top of the climbing wall. I wasn't sure how it would go-- he had the guts, but would he get scared, or would it just be too hard? Nope.
Alex scaled that wall like he owned it.
Seriously, should I be surprised? He's been scaling walls since he was born!
When he was about three feet from the top, he called down that he wanted to come down, but Jon and "the guy holding the other end of the rope" both encouraged him to keep going, and it didn't take long to convince him to do so. (Later on, I asked him about it, and turned out that he had looked down-- totally freaked himself out.)
He made it. He got to the top of the four story wall, tried to ring that blasted broken ringer, and was let down. He was so darn proud of himself, and wanted to keep going, but we decided to wait-- there are four different levels, and we figure we can milk this one.
He's been saying he wants to be a climber when he grows up. There may be an appropriate job for him then. I figure he should be good looking enough!
